About the Mesh Virus-Control Flag Partition
This “flag partition” is currently in actual use at INTERSECT by LEXUS-TOKYO, a cafe, bistro, and gallery located in Tokyo’s Aoyama district. It was created so that guests and staff could visit and enjoy the spaces free from anxiety over the current COVID-19 virus.
The mesh surface of the partition uses a filter, such as a medical or vehicle engine filter, and can offer antiviral properties by attaching the latest nanoparticle technology (protecting against 99.9% of viruses), providing a partition that also inhibits droplet infections. The breathable mesh, which is attached to slim frames of varying sizes, was designed as an innovative partition that not only enhances protection but also adds a splash of color to spaces, and can be used in virtually any configuration, including as a room divider or table partition, without compromising sound. This partition was created by combining the power of color with new virus-inhibiting technology, realizing “communication device art” that protects the spaces used in everyday life.
The brightly colored patterns, designed to evoke the image of a flag waving in support of a new way of life, change in color density depending on the viewing angle, giving the space a sense of energy and movement.
This project was launched in 2020, when the digital transformation trend accelerated by COVID-19 began changing the way people communicate, with the goal of creating spaces where people can gather in the same space to enjoy their time together safely in today’s new normal.
